ABOUT TRICORN BLACK

Established in 2020 by Heylen Thienes, Tricorn Black strives to design interiors that connect with our clients and speaks to their life stories and nostalgic senses; creating the kind of beauty that is only possible when one fully immerses themselves in a client focused concept and its delivery.

By shifting our focus from trends to personal taste, and considering form, function, architectural details and location, we are able to deliver cohesive designs that organically stand the test of time.

The studio’s work focuses on private residences, restaurant design and light retail. We recently wrapped up the interior design for Top Chef alum Brian Malarkey’s first Oregon restaurant: Hawkeye & Huckleberry Lounge, consulted with Tomi Mart (Bend’s Asian Market), and are currently working with Portable Dwelling Co.

MEET HEYLEN

(pronounced like Van Halen)

Heylen is the kind of person that dives in, researches and won’t stop until she is satisfied or has found something better. She’s conceptually driven and draws inspiration from people’s experiences and nostalgia, these are the details that inform her material, color and textural palettes, creating spaces that tell clients’ stories, bring delight and engage people’s senses. She is involved at every stage of the design process from the very first consultation, to specifying materials and designing custom furniture pieces.

This same story driven philosophy is applied to commercial spaces where she immerses herself into the concept and develops it in a way that stays true to the intended context and vision yet surprises and inspires curiosity.

Heylen attended the London College of Communication at the University of the Arts, London (England) graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Design for Publishing. She completed her masters in Interior Design at the Heritage School of Interior Design in Portland, Oregon graduating top of her class.
